This is an essential 20 min teaching from Tsoknyi Rinpoche which covers the topics that have been so personal to me: the “Western” mind and how we often need to work with our “emotional body” our “subtle body” first. Our culture encourages what Rinpoche calls cognitive development and a materialist orientation towards success even in childhood and so the emotional development is not as developed (as it is in the East). Westerners often do not have a well developed sense of well-being and carry a “wounded heart” from a young age. Rinpoche talks about where to begin practice (in the body, working with “essential love”) and speaks volumes in just a short teaching. He has lived and taught in America and Europe for many years and has an incredibly helpful understanding of the western mind combined with the wisdom of the lineage.
