Robb Wolf – Sarah Strange – Wrangham Review.
Here is one scientist’s response to the raw vegan fad. Yes, I am calling it a fad. Richard Wrangham is the Ruth Moore Professor of Biological Anthropology at Harvard University and the author of the book and source of this excerpt, Catching Fire: How Cooking Made Us Human. He might have been the scientist I heard on the radio several years ago who explained that when humans started cooking food we went from chewing for 8+ hours per day to dramatically fewer (2?) and so our brains grew with the new range of behaviours possible along with our jaws, teeth and digestive systems which also changed. I have had the idea since then that modern raw vegans can only be this way because others spent millennia cooking our food and evolving so that we could have the brains and capacities to invent and make Vitamixes to chew our foods for us if we choose… and don’t get me started on drinking our meals instead of chewing them!
